The Boler is a unique lightweight fiberglass travel trailer with a curvy retro look and large windows on all sides. The Boler Company made the egg-shaped travel trailers between 1968-1988 and over the years, it became one of the most popular vintage travel trailers in Canada.
The inspiration for the new look
We bought this 1700 model in Québec in 2013 and upgraded many features to give it a new vintage look. You can see the transformation between the old and the new camper in Before and After photos! The camper’s new look is inspired by the classic Volkswagen Bus and the small 13-foot traditional Boler. We chose a vintage blue called VW Volkswagen Sea Blue – L360. Other popular shades of blue were Reef Blue and Oceanic Blue from the 1970-79 VW Paint Color Chart.
Some of the most recognizable features of the Boler are the the large jalousie windows and the fiberglass rounded shell, also called an egg. This retro 17foot-long camper has two sleeping area, a kitchen with sink and cooktop, a combined shower and flush toilet, plus all the modern upgrades of a newer camper.
The Boler logo used to be painted on the front window awning. We changed the location and the font style of the logo and decided to place it right next to the door.
We painted the interior with the same colors as the interior. The storage wall and upper cupboards are white and the lower cabinets are teal blue. We found a bigger refrigerator and had to change the size of some cabinet doors and drawers. The refrigerator door became a frame for a colorful artwork.
The new kitchen counter can extend to add more cooking space and the old oven has been replaced by a 3-burner cooktop stove.
Even though everything inside is new, we made very few changes to the original floor plan. You can see a list of the modifications we made in the upgrades section.
