Kitchen Counter

Since the walls and ceiling have a unique curvy line, it was easier to build new cabinets using the old ones as guides. We removed the interior cupboards and kept each piece as a template for cutlines to build new ones. We also kept as many doors as we could. Most of them are original that have been painted.

The new wooden table is much easier to adjust with the new air-powered 3-stage pedestal and becomes a stable base for a sleeping area. The new 4″ foam cushions are covered with Sunbrella Fabric. We kept the old ones for cutlines and dimensions.

We added support to the existing iron posts. We installed the extension leaf on the left side of the counter, to leave the sleeping area open. We bought a new table pedestal and wooden countertops at IKEA and adjusted them to fit the width of the counter and the table. The appliances are new, except for the refrigerator. When we saw a used RV refrigerator for sale on craigslist, we took a chance and bought it. It was just the size we were looking for, and we didn’t want to spend thousands of dollars on a new one.

We changed the old linoleum floor with an easy to install adhesive vinyl plank flooring. The table, the countertop, and the extension are made of wood.
